A MESSAGE FROM THE PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
To Students, Parents and Staff,
On behalf of the Parents’ Association of Heywood Community School I would like to welcome all students, teachers and ancillary staff back for a new academic year. A special welcome to all new students, and our new Deputy Principal Ms. Geraldine Ryan and we hope the 2012/2013 school year will be a fulfilling one for all.
For all first year students this is a challenging time and it may take a little while to settle in and find your way around, but with the many supports the school offers there is no need to be anxious or worried. The Meitheal Programme is designed to allow mature students to mentor first year students so as to integrate them into a new school environment. There are many other contacts if you have any anxieties or queries such as Senior Prefects, your Subject Teacher, Class Tutor or Year Head. We would urge all students to take advantage of the many facilities on offer including the wide variety of subjects and extra-curricular activities. These include public speaking, choir, sports, cultural and artistic events that abound in the school. By participating in some of these events, you will become both a well-rounded individual and a team player. Our wish for all students is academic success and a happy and enjoyable school year. Welcome back to the teachers, especially to all new teachers, new deputy principal, clerical/administration, canteen and caretaking staff. As parents we appreciate all the great work you do on behalf of our children, by becoming involved in the many extra-curricular activities, fundraising events and by being available to talk to parents when necessary. We assure you of our continued support at all times. The Parents’ Association have become partners in the education process in Heywood by being involved in the updating of policy and by being invited to voice our opinions on aspects of school life. We have seen many improvements and additions to the school buildings, facilities and equipment over the years. This has been made possible with the co-operation of all school staff, parents, students, past students and local enterprise. Last year saw the official opening of our new full sized G.A.A. synthetic pitch, and walking track. This has been a wonderful development both for the school and the wider community and has added greatly to the existing facilities at Heywood. The A.G.M of the Parents’ Association takes place on Thursday 11th October 2012 at 8.00p.m. and we would ask you all to attend on the night. We take this opportunity to wish: The Leaving Certificate class of 2012 happiness and success in their future studies and careers. Ms. Mary Fitzgerald (Deputy Principal for the last 16 years) health, happiness and every success in whatever she chooses to do in a future career. May the school year of 2012/2013 be rewarding and successful for everyone.
